Experiences in Health information management

a classroom

The bachelor of science degree with major in health information management provides the student with the knowledge needed to ensure accessibility, accuracy, availability, integrity, and security of patient health information. Freshman and sophomore year students complete required coursework in the health sciences pre-HIM concentration and apply to the program during their second year to be admitted for their third year. A multi-week professional practice experience during which qualified students perform under the guidance of a preceptor at an affiliated site is incorporated into the program. Students may seek further professional development through university student services and professional organizations such as AHIMA, TxHIMA, and HIMSS. Students have the option to participate in Education Abroad or Study in America for global and cultural enrichment. Membership in numerous campus organizations is also available for developing peer networks.
